Summoners War Guides For Newbie Part 3

Welcome to part 3 of the Summoners War guide for beginners! In this part, we will dive deeper into the strategic aspects of the game, including:

1. Normal World Arena – ToAN

The Normal World Arena (ToAN) is a PvE dungeon that tests the player’s skills. Completing ToAN will reward you with many valuable rewards, including runes, mana, and scrolls.

To conquer ToAN, you need:

  • Build a balanced team with monsters that have the ability to attack, defend, support, and heal.
  • Upgrade runes for your monsters to increase their strength.
  • Choose the right strategy for each floor.

2. Giant’s Keep – GB10

Giant’s Keep (GB) is where you can farm Violent runes, one of the strongest rune sets in Summoners War. GB has 10 floors, with increasing difficulty.

To farm GB efficiently, you need:

  • A team that can clear quickly.
  • Good runes for your monsters.
  • Use the right strategy.

3. Using Runes

Runes are a new item introduced in Summoners War. You can use Runes to upgrade runes, level up monsters, and awaken monsters.

How to use Runes:

  • Upgrade runes: Use Runes to upgrade runes to level 12 or 15.
  • Level up monsters: Use Runes to level up monsters to level 40 or 60.
  • Awaken monsters: Use Runes to awaken monsters.

4. A few words about Runes

Runes are a precious item, so you should use them carefully. Here are some tips:

  • It is recommended to use Runes to upgrade runes for important monsters in your team.
  • It is recommended to use Runes to level up monsters when you don’t have enough food.
  • It is recommended to use Runes to awaken monsters when you need to improve their strength.

Let’s explore the article together

1. Normal World Arena – ToAN

If you have followed my guide up to this point, you will have a team capable of clearing the entire ToAN. Your team will consist of:

  • Veromos: Swift / Energy
  • Loren: Swift / Energy
  • Fran: Violent / Will
  • Shannon: Despair / Any (5* is sufficient)
  • Lapis: Vampire / Revenge

This team is strong enough to clear all 100 floors. You can auto most of the floors, but you may need to try autoing again or manual play on the more difficult floors (around 80-90).

You can farm elemental halls, secret dungeons, or Faimon while simultaneously running ToAN.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • This is a good time to explain in more detail why building nat5s can slow your progress. It’s true that there are some nat5s that are good for PvE, but they are mostly only useful in 1-2 areas. In contrast, the nat23s with the rune sets I recommend have more versatility. For example, Rica and Verad are both good for ToA, but that’s about it. Veromos, on the other hand, can be used for ToA, Giants, Dragons, and more. Building unnecessary monsters can also disperse your Runes, weakening your overall account.
  • Many people will advise you to choose Tyron in the nat4 selection event for ToA, but I disagree. This may have been true in the past when you had to farm Runes yourself, but now, with free resources, newer players are getting stronger while ToA difficulty remains the same. You have already seen how easy it is to clear ToAN with just free resources. You won’t need Tyron for ToAH either, and ToA Hell is a different level that Tyron alone can’t handle. I recommend waiting until you have summoned all the nat4s before making a decision.

After clearing ToAN 100 and maxing the skills of Darion and Belladeon, you can move on to the next step (if you haven’t already, farm the Inugami secret dungeon and Faimon Hell 1 until their skills 2 and 3 are maxed).

2. Giant B10 (GB10) – Hard

The most important dungeon in the game.

First, you will need to switch Fran’s Violent/Will set to Belladeon and remove Loren’s Swift/Energy set. This is why I recommended you to clear ToAN first, as you will need the Runes to re-equip them later.

Your team will consist of:

  • Veromos + Darion: Both of these monsters should use Swift/Energy sets. Since you now have two sets, prioritize the better set (with more speed/crit rate/crit damage substats) for Veromos and the weaker set for Darion.
  • Shannon: Despair/Any set
  • Belladeon: Violent/Will set
  • Kro: Fatal/Blade set

Remember to max the skills of all nat2/nat3 monsters and 2nd awaken Kro (no need to level up skills after 2A) before attempting.

You can auto-farm the boss directly. Each farm run will take about 3 minutes, which is quite long, but you will gradually improve your team’s efficiency.

3. Using Runes

80% of this game is about how you use runes. You will keep runes with good substats and sell runes with bad substats for mana.

Specifically, I divide the substats in runes into the following criteria:

  • Important: Crit Rate, Spd
  • Good: hp%, def%, atk%, crit dmg, Accuracy
  • Bad: Hp+, Def+, Atk+, Resistance

Everyone has different standards for buying and selling runes. My standards are as follows:

  • I will keep any runes with important substats, regardless of its other substats, if it can be upgraded into that important substat.
  • I will also keep runes that have been upgraded at least 2 times into good substats.
  • For 5* runes or runes with bad main stats and Accuracy, I will check if they have Spd. If they do, I will upgrade them to +6 or +9. If they are upgraded into Spd 2 times, I will keep them.
  • I will sell the rest.

The criteria can be subjective and not 100% accurate. You will gradually set higher standards for 2, 4, and 6-star runes, but don’t worry, you can always sell them later. As you accumulate more runes, go through your inventory and consider selling runes that you can’t see yourself using on any monster in the future. You can also sell the worst runes from sets that you have a lot of.

Regardless of your criteria, keeping runes is generally more beneficial than selling them. If you’re unsure about a rune, keep it and ask for advice in a community group.

In addition to farming Runes in Giants, you will also receive a significant amount of Runes from in-game events, rewards, labyrinths, and quests. If you are given the option to choose a set, prioritize Violent, Swift, and Guard runes (in that order). Try to avoid Focus, Energy, Accuracy, Enhance, Endurance, and Determination runes.

4. A few words about Runes

One important thing to remember is that for PvE, all stats except resistance are useful for monsters. For example, a damage dealer like your Kro benefits from:

  • Attack: Higher attack allows it to deal more damage.
  • Crit Rate: Increases the chance of its attacks landing as critical hits, dealing even more damage.
  • Crit Damage: Increases the damage of its critical hits.
  • HP: More HP allows it to survive longer. Remember, dead monsters deal no damage!
  • Speed: Higher speed allows it to move more quickly, which can be crucial in battles.
  • Accuracy: Increases the chance of its debuffs, such as defense break and brand, landing on enemies.

With the exception of resistance, all stats are beneficial for damage dealers. For support monsters, you don’t need to focus on attack, crit rate, or crit damage, but you’ll only be building 4-5 support monsters compared to 13-14 damage dealers.

This is why you should prioritize rune sets that provide useful stats. The reason you farm Giants before Dragons, even though they have the same difficulty, is because 4/5 of the Giants rune sets provide useful stats, making it easier to build monsters.

Since all stats are useful for monsters, any rune set can be used for damage dealers. You often see people building Kro with Fatal/Blade or Rage/Blade, but you don’t necessarily need to try to get a Fatal/Rage set. You’ll still need to find other stats regardless of the set you choose. A Kro with a Rage/Blade set that has HP, Def, and Spd substats will not be significantly weaker than a Kro with a Swift/Blade or Energy/Blade set that has Crit Dmg and Crit Rate substats.
